Dwyer officer of the year; Orillia cop receives traffic safety award

Orillia OPP community relations officer Const. Gerry Dwyer has one more decoration to hang on his wall after being presented with the James Sneep Community Award by CAA South Central Ontario yesterday.

The award is given to the top officer of the year for promoting traffic safety.

Dwyer was nominated by Orillia OPP detachment commander Insp. Terry Wright

"Gerry is an outstanding police officer", Wright said yesterday after the presentation. "He is by far the most proactive community services office I've ever worked with."

Dwyer is involved in running programs such as the CAA school safety patroller program and the Orillia OPP detachment's elementary school program.

"This award is well-deserving and long overdue," said Orillia Police Services Board chair Don McNeil.
